I have a question about my S&W MP . It has a flat top receiver but has a standered front sight post. My question is can i mount a ACOG or aimpoint with the front post ? It dont appear to be a removeable front sight . I am new to the ar guns but i am kinda confused on the mounting of optics with that front sight .... thanks alot for any help .................

Yes. No problem at all. It's hard to explain, but you will not see the front sight post when you mount an optic. It sort of disappears, or your brain adjusts, or whatever, but it is not a problem. Most of us have optics mounted on guns with normal front sight posts. It perfectly fine.

ACOG or aimpoint are no problem. With the Aimpoint you can also mount a rear back up iron sight in the event of battery failure you just flip up the iron sight and use it with the aimpoint still mounted.

You can mount either type of optic with a standard front sight post. It bothers some people, I have an EOTech on my (current) main carbine and haven't been bothered by the front sight post. If you go with an Acog it most likely won't even seem to be there. That's been my experience. You can always change front sights if it bothers you.

Depends on which your going to use. There are many different types of mounts for different versions of Aimpoint or Acog.

ACOG should come with a rail mount. If it does not it needs a special mount but most come with it when they are new.

Yea, like they said, if your optics have zoom, you more than likely wont even see the front sight. But I took mine off because I wanted an unobstructed view with my EOTech. If you decide to take it off, its easy.

Make yourself accustomed to shooting with both eyes open as you use the red dot.
Something a lot of people overlook as they are starting out shooting.

The ACOG comes with its own mount that will sit right on your flat top upper.
The Aimpoint I would go with the A.R.M.S.® #22M68 throw lever base, if you need it mounted higher they make spacers to compensate for that as well.
