Is anyone using the 516.A65/1? I like the side buttons. Since I'm not going to be buying nightvision unless I win the lottery, I'm having trouble justifying the extra funds for the 557. Any thoughts?

i wish mine had the side buttons, especially when i tried a magnifier along with. it was kind of a pain to reach the buttons. doh.gif

as for the night vision, mine has it, but it likely won't ever be needed. you never know tho...some of the older stuff has really come down in price and a monocular really isn't that expensive anymore. not that i plan on getting one, but ya never know. wink.gif

I think the 557 has the Bullet drop compensator for the 5.56 round? You might want to check on this, I think it would be worth it, especially if you are going to use a magnifier. I want the Eotech with the side buttons also.

Great choice in Optics!

We have the EOtech sights on our 40mm launchers, and our SRT has them on all of their subguns, but I'm not sure which models we have. I know that one is an older model and is not one of the NV compatible sights.

Since this is going on a carbine I don't think the bullet drop compensator is something I'm likely to need. From what I can see, the compensator doesn't really help until the range is over 300 meters. Am I right about that and about the usefulness of it on a carbine?

Side buttons would work nice with a magnifier, I know you can purchase the side flip-over mount, but why do that when you can work the buttons on the side and never take your eye out of the reticle.
I have a 557 ordered that will hopefully be here later this week.

I don't think the BDC is a necessity. A magnifier would be nice though...

Look around and see if you can get a deal the 556. That is what I am running. It has the side buttons and they are really nice to have when running the magnifier.

i have the 517. It's just like a 516 but uses AA batt., and has all the good features that remedy some of the shortcomings that users pointed out: 7mm raised base, buttons relocated to the side, and better waterproof feature (well, it's not like I'll go swim or perform an underwater Op with it laugh.gif )
Plus the 517 looks better than the orig. AA batt. 512 model. Somehow the batt. compartment 512 looks like a duck's beak to me and i can't stand it laugh.gif
