I asked my dad if I could participate in the group buy for the Addax GPU. As you know, he said no. One thing he did mention was that he would only let me buy another rifle if it did something else that my AR-15 or one of my .22's doesn't do, whatever that means.

I've been thinking about buying a .223 bolt action rifle so I could do some long range shooting. My local range only goes out to 100 yards.

Eventually I want to be able to shoot out to at least 500 yards or more. Currently, that is a long way off. When that happens I figure I will be out of my parents' house(I hope) and I will have a good enough job where I can just buy another rifle in a bigger caliber and maybe live near a range that is 500 yards or something.

I have been browsing the different rifle companies and I thought I had settled on the Remington 700. Until Sty said that the trigger on the Remington 700 wasn't very good and it would cost upwards of $200 to replace the trigger. He mentioned that I should take a look at Savage. I found the Savage 16 FCSS that looks pretty nice.

So,what do you all think?

Don't know anything about it, nice looking rifle!

I've been thinking about the 10FP, I've read several good reviews on it and may pick it up after the holidays.

It's worth a look, here's the link: Savage 10FP

Have fun shopping thumb.gif

I'm sure the bolt action boys will be around shortly with plenty of help!

You should be able to get the trigger adjusted by a gunsmith for under $100 if you buy the Rem.Or you can adjust it yourself,it is not as hard as everyone thinks it is.{plenty of info online]

You could get an M1 Garand that would fire a 30-06 out 500 yards.

this one doesn't have the accu-trigger, but it seems to be a good buy with the scope and bipod included...

http://www.savagearms.com/11fxp3.htm I bought this one a few years ago and I absolutely love it. At 100 yards, I can whipe out the head of a dime with a three shot group. Savage gets maligned on a lot of forums, but you will be hard pressed to find a better rifle. Make sure you get the heavy barrel and you will really enjoy this 223. It was my gateway gun/drug to the Colt Match Target I later purchased.

Them ther's fightin' words! wink.gif The Remington 700 is proven platform and you could not go wrong with it! You or a gunsmith could fine tune the trigger to what you like for under $100 or if you bought the newer 700 with the Xmark-pro trigger you are set!

Just look at these:

Have you looked into the .308?

I'd like to think we like all types of rifles here. smile.gif This is why we have so many different opinions on so many different things...and yet we are somewhat civil about it. wink.gif
