I recently saw a really neat Bushmaster rifle in 450 Bushmaster, with a camo finish that I really liked.

I have been sorta thinking of a heavier caliber in AR platform for deer, and maybe hog hunting, etc.

How has the 450 Bushmaster been working out. Any problems?

What caliber would you choose, in addition to a .223?

I looked at a picture of the 450 Bushmaster, and it wasn't clear to me, exactlly how it headspaced. I don't see a belt, so assume that it headspaces on the rounded front of the case, Is that right? Anyway, I was wondering how well that was working, and if I did handload, how difficult it was to duplicate.

I am not a real big fan of headspacing on the case mouth, I would rather see a rim, belt or shoulder or something.

So what do you think, is this a good choice, or not?

Love my .450 Bushmaster. I have not had one problem with it at all. If you decide to get it, it will come with a 7 round mag. Take the blue follower out and put it in a 30 round mag, you can get more ammo in the magazine that way. Buying a magazine for them is outrageous. They take the standard AR mag. So you could buy a couple of follwers, and put them in a hi cap mag and get more than the 7 shots and come out cheaper than buying the 450 magazine. Also If I were you I would just get the upper, that is what I did. You can always build it into a complete gun or just use another AR lower. The .450 does kick so you may want to get a hydraulic buffer or a butt pad to go on it.

Can't help much on the headspacing question, but I can tell you that I love my Thumper! Chasenfate is right on the mags. I have had no problems with mine and it is one of my favorite rifles. It does have a nice little kick to it!
