I have never purchased a 1911 before, and am wondering if anyone has anything to say about the Pro Carry II™ / .45 ACP.

Good buy? Is there something better similar in price? I am looking to spend around $700...

Kimbers are great guns. You can't go wrong. $700 is a good price for a Kimber, which is a top quality pistol.

If you don't have your heart set on this model, I'd recommend looking at some of the full size guns that Kimber makes. The ProCarry II is going to be a handful for a first 1911.

Also, if you're waiting to acquire more cash anyway, might wait until Charles Daly comes out with their new offering. I'm thinking it will be like their other guns, a hell of a value.

It's a good choice. They go for $680 at one of my local shops.

If you are set on the Pro-Carry, check out the Dan Wesson CBOB... You may have to save a bit more money but it will be worth it in the long run. The Kimbers are very nice (Trust me, the Custom II that I just sold to fund my AR build hurts my stomach every time I think about it,.... lol) but done again, I would go Dan Wesson...

Kimber makes a good 1911. If you can get it for $700 that isn't a bad price. However my experience with them was you pay a lot for something you can get elsewhere for cheaper. I loved my Kimber but I overpaid for what ti was. When I go tobuy another one like it, It'll probably be the Springfield equivlant.

Kimbers are the best! Especially those with external extractors! Can't go wrong!

Ok, now that half of the 1911 forum hates me, I would say go with a Springfield, S&W, or even a Para. I just have better experience with these. I haven't shot a Kimber that hasn't had a cycling issue within the first five mags. I have heard they do better with Wilson, Chip McCormicks, etc. That being said, they are probably the most accurate handguns out of the box.

Kimber no longer produces them with external extractors, but S&W does.

I have a Kimber and a Springer. My Springer has taken a lot of tinkering to get right. My Kimber runs just fine; so, the tinkering is just for fun. smile.gif

I am aware that Kimber doesn't make them anymore and that S&W does. I was just being the lil bastiage I love to be. Kimber makes an incredible gun, I just prefer Springfield.

FWIW Kimber does make the F*ing sexiest 1911's though.
