Hypothetical, but it could happen in the near future., What would you, as LEO, do?

Not sure if this has been asked on here before, but here goes.
Obama won the '08 presidential election, the Demons took both the House and Senate. Law is passed that bans all private firearm ownership. Orders are given to all LE agencies to start confiscating all privately held firearms. How many of the LEO's will follow the orders, and how many will follow and defend the Constitution?
Someone had an article in S.W.A.T. recently, imploring LEO's to uphold the Constitution. Thought I would ask, also.

LEO's would follow the law. They have already set precident following other unconstitutional laws.

Not all LEO's are mindless dolts. There will be some that will follow the orders given to them but on that same hand there will be a number that will NOT.

I am speaking for my area alone.

Personally I dont think that if that order was ever given that it would be given to the local agencies. It would go out on the federal level but the locals would be asked to assist in any way possible.

How would you realistically confiscate all of Americas' privately held arms? I understand that many sheep would willingly turn em in, but there is a large faction that would not, are patrol officers set up to tackle that kind of large scale armed, unwilling, and otherwise law abiding people?

Firstly, a law like this would be immediately challenged and work it's way through the courts. The Supreme Court would eventually rule on whether the 2A gives citizens an individual right to own firearms.

Whoa there-they are going to rule on that next month! I have no doubt the Court will rule it's an indivdual right.

Therefore, this scenario, as much as the doomsday prophets like to scare everyone, is simply not going to happen.

The only way it could happen is via an amendment to the Constitution, and if that happened, then confiscation would, by definition, be Constitutional. I very much doubt such an amendment would be ratified by the states, don't you?

unfortunately, there's enough of that drivel on both sides to warrant the stereotypes. Y'all know that I'm not a LEO basher--but what I saw in NOLA after Katrina and in Kansas after the tornados completely sickened me.....just as much as the pachuli stink of California hippies does. sad.gif

LPD, I can see how you, and gentlemen and ladies like you who are not only civillian cops - but members of the National Guard or Army Reserve would be doubly squeezed. Not only could you theoretically be given orders by your civillian superiors, you could be facing such orders from the C-in-C, or Joint Chiefs. That'd be uber shitty.

It would be pretty shitty. And let me tell you it would be hard to flat out refuse since they are paying my bills. It would definately not be a fun situation.
