I wish I could say the title of this thread was truthful! The department is CONSIDERING getting new guns, but I know how it will go. We will end up keeping what we have for quite awhile. It just always seems to work out that way. Currently we are carrying Sig Sauer P226's in 9mm some of which we bought in 1990 that we are still carrying. One of mine was issued to me used, and I would have to say it is probably close to 15 years old.

At any rate, I got to fondle some new Sigs yesterday that a rep brought for us to look at. He brought Several new Sigs in various calibers for us to play with and shoot. One that I was EXTREMELY interested in was the Sig P250. Seemed like a pretty cool setup. He also had a 229 in DAK. Never really played with a DAK system. I kinda liked it. Another one had Sig's SRT trigger that seemed interesting, but I think the short reset of the trigger might have been a little extreme. Seemed like the trigger was going to be TOO short on follow up shots.

I am dreaming anyway, I doubt we get ANYTHING. He did have a Sig 556 rifle that I fondled for a little bit. I liked it!!!!

We got sigs about two years before I left. They were the 40cal. The finish on them must have been poor as six months into it four had to be sent back for refinishing. Other than that they were good guns...

Whats the round count on those ancient Sigs though? They're still chugging along, right? Good stuff...especially the 9mm flavors.

DAK is an awesome trigger - I've nto played with their SRT yet, but I love the DAK compared to the standard DAO or DA/SA guns. If you guys must get new Sigs, I would opt for either 9mm 226 DAK guns w/ rails and tac lights for every officer, or the 220 DAK with rail and light for every officer. Screw the .40's or .357's - 9 or .45 covers small & numerous or big & heavy quite well, and neither has the recoil of the .40 or .357.

Or you could always get Glocks. Or M&P's. Or CZ SP-01's. Please, get the bayonet option with them smile.gif I'd love to see the look on some douchebag's face when you draw down, and have 6 inches of sharpened steel hanging off the front of your gun gun3.gif

I don't care if it's shaped like a penis and you gotta cradle the balls to grip it if it shoots realiably and Glocks do.

Sigs are super nice, but spendy. As stated above, you could always go with Glocks. I've carried them at two different depts and own a couple personally. From what I understand, Glock may offer the best trade-in value for you guys old service weapons.

I love the SRT. I'd happily carry one.

The DAK was great, until I put hands on the SRT.

I CARRIED A SIG 220 IN THE ACADEMY AND LOVED IT. SIGS ARE WONDERFUL GUNS BUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM IS THAT THEY LOVE TLC AND IF YOU NEGLECT THEM, YOU WILL PAY FOR IT. MY DEPARTMENT CARRIES THE GLOCK 22 .40. EASY TO USE, VERY CONFIDENT WITH IT. I LOVE THE GLOCK FOR ONE REASON. ANYONE CAN CARRY IT AND IT WILL WORK! I ALWAYS CLEAN MY GUN, I'M ONE THE OF THE DEPT. INSTRUCTORS, AND SHOOT PERFECT SCORES AT QUALS. BUT YOU ALSO HAVE GUYS THAT DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT GUNS AND COULDN'T HIT WATER IF THEY FELL OUT OF A BOAT. EVEN FOR THOSE GUYS THAT DON'T EVER CLEAN THEIR GUNS, THE GLOCK WORKS.

BUT IF I HAD MY WAY...KIMBER 1911'S ALL THE WAY...GOOD LUCK WITH THE NEW GUNS

I stopped by the department range the other day to talk to my buddy and he was talking to the SIG factory rep. He asked if I had time to put some rounds through a new carbine they were considering (SIG 556). Who doesn't have time to shoot a gun on city time? I put sixty rounds through it and have no doubt I could have qualified with it first time out. We currently carry Bushmasters and I have had zero problems with my rifle. I've had it for several years and probably have 1500 rounds through it with no issues. Having said that, if the city wants to hand me a 556, I'd gladly hand in my Bushmaster.
