Most 9mm AR's have use a mag block which is usually somewhat of a weak point. The only two 9mm AR's that have a dedicated lower (that I'm aware of) are the Bushmaster Carbon 15 and the Olympic Glock© lowers. I've heard of people being worried about K-Booms in the Bushmaster Carbine weapons, but never an actual case of one occurring. The Olympics seem nice, but I don't believe that they make a flat top version. Anyone with an other information to add?

TIA,

TS

I dunno, I'm really wanting to do a 9mm build to suppress and SBR.

I don't know where to begin with it or what to buy or anything. The Olympic Glock 9mm would be awesome because of the mags but I've yet to see if you can buy only the lower receiver.

Any of you 9mm guys direct me the right way?

I forget who makes it, but I know of a mag block that installs into the magwell by just tightening a screw. It can be installed in just minutes and taken out even quicker. It uses MAC mags I believe. You just have to cut a notch into them so they will lock into the ARs mag catch. I am thinkin of gettin a 9mm upper so I can shoot a lil cheaper.

one of my CCW instructors is a SC SLED agent and he brought out his oddball AR after class. Black Diamond lower, .40 cal, and it used Glock mags....I don't recall if they were modified or not. The mag well blocks just dropped in from the top and were held in place by the upper when upper and lower were pinned together. (that was my first time shooting a suppressed SBR)

I believe RRA is also a dedicated lower because of the trigger group.

yes, Olympic Arms does offer an A3 upper as I built one earlier this year; if you download the 07 Catalog you can see it as an option. thumbsup.gif

here are a few pictures and links as I built my 9mm lower; if you have any questions please feel free to ask, and I’ll do my best to help you in anyway I can. thumbsup.gif

well to start off with I got a really good look at a sweet 9mm set-up a few months ago and decided to assemble a pistol caliber carbine of my own.

I choose to purchase the upper assembly as a complete unit (warranty reasons of course).

This is my 9mm build parts list:

SNS Star Logo “MMC” Forged Lower

SNS MWB-1 9mm STEN Mag-Well Bocks

Olympic Arms Lower Parts Kit

Olympic Arms Anti-walk Pins

Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard

UPG16 Modular Pistol Grip

RRA Entry Buttstock

STEN Modified 32 Round Magazine

Close-up w/Sten Mag and MWB-1 blocks.

Close-up of the MWB-1 (top-view).

Sten Mag’s w/magazine catch (cut with an end mill).

Completed Lower Assembly (ready for a CAR A3 upper receiver).

Rear MWB-1 w/allen wrench.

This was taken at a range south of my location last September; this is a Factory OA 9mm with their modified Sten magazine.

NOTE: these “Magpul loops” will fit on the bottom of a STEN magazine.

That is damned nice carbine, BSM! I may just have to do that. I shot a suppressed 9mm SBR carbine at the ETH Rememberance Shoot and that was the sweetest thing I've ever shot, other than maybe the American 180 I shot when I was a kid. That 9mm had absolutely no recoil whatsoever!

Thanks again,

TS

That is damned nice carbine

they are a blast to shoot and are a bit cheaper to plink with right now as the prices are up on most everything! I have a 5.5in FH that I’m thinking about installing on it, but it would require cutting the barrel to 11.5in and then pin & weld the FH.

I also have a RRA deflector assembly that I’m going to install soon; I just need to pull the barrel from the UR to get it in as well.

Thank you for the complement TS bigsmile.gif
