ok, i'm going camping with a bunch of friends this weekend, and each person is responsible for bringing their own ration of food. normally, each person is assigned a meal, but now instead of being responsible for just one meal, i have to figure out each one.

what are some examples of the stuff ya'll take with you camping? i will have a cooler, and should have access to a small stove, and a grill.

i'm thinking...
-hotdogs
-tuna fish and bread
-a pack of ham
-chips
-jerky

what else is good to take as far as good taste, easy to store, and easy to prepare?

I usually have a small jar of peanut butter with me.
Trail mix.
Mountainhouse stuff is good too.
Having the cooler opens you up a bit on food.
Bacon, Sausage all maybe a few eggs.

Depending on how long ya are going and how ya will be getting there can be important.

I normally take a couple 3 MRE's, Ritz crackers & PB, Tuna, few cans of chili & chunky soup, eggs, caned hash & hash browns, lots of Gorp & if there is a grill a steak as nothing tastes better than a grilled steak oh yea.gif

Take some tin foil, you can cook just about anything on a grill with that and the right amount of charcoal distributed properly. I'd bet I could do a frozen pizza on a grill.

Brats and beer should be on your list.

i have no intentions of roughing it. i'm simply going to hang out at the lake with 5 buddies. i am thinking of taking my microwave, and hooking it up to my truck via an inverter i have, and then i can heat up all sorts of stuff. bigsmile.gif

might fix a pot of chili and just keep it in the cooler and microwave as needed.

Normally on my camping/hunting trips I take
brats, steak, pork ribs, chili, eggs, bacon, canned potatoes, sausage, canned soup, bread, cheese, crackers, and bring my grill, skillet, and camp stove. Nothing like ruffing it in the woods.

Granola bars or the high-test protein bars you can get at health food stores. Took those backpacking. Good quick source of energy. Good food quality.

I survive on my Utah trips with Mountainhouse meals, beef jerky and power bars.

Yeah pretty much me too. I kind of gotten pretty lazy in my old age. I throw in some nice fruit cups/cans/pouches to add a little variety and vitamin C as well as crackers and small cans of veggies to go with the freeze dried stuff.

Now if we have a group to cook for, it gets complicated with a usual chili at least once and another favorite easy to make smoked pork chops topped with cheese on hamburger buns. Breakfast is omelets and toast. Lunch is sammich.
