Just for carrying some stuff around the woods, like camera, food, binos, ammo, a sweater maybe. No overnight or anything.

I don't want to spend much. Any ideas. What should I look for?

I 2nd the ALICE pack. I got one a while back to use as a workout pack/day pack. Sure, its not the most comfortable thing, and its kind of awkward routing my camelbak hose out of it (I need to cut a slit in the main flap for that), but theyre cheap and pretty hard to destroy. Mine is very well used but I got it for the BIN price of $4.50 on fleabay.

Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II. I've beaten the heck out of mine and it still looks brand new after 2 or 3 years - the only thing I've had to do is sponge it off once or twice. No hydration insert though, you'd have to step up to something bigger from Maxpedition. LAPolicegear has them at closeout prices right now...
