as some of you know, i went camping with some friends over the weekend. we went to a state park where the Dan and Staunton river meet, right before entering Kerr Resivour, also known as Bugs Island Lake for those of you that may have heard of it. we arrived friday night about dark, and camped and fished all weekend.
this picture was taken about 8 a.m. on the water on our way out to fish.

it seemed as tho everyone wanted to fish for something different, so we kept changing places. basically for the whole morning we just motored around and had fun.

i am glad i took a picture of this fish, because its the only one we caught all weekend.

this was a cool part of the lake because you could beach the boat right at either end of this bridge and walk into town to a really cool bait store and a gas station to get stuff if you need it. there was even a McDonalds within walking distance, but we didn't eat there.

these birds were EVERYWHERE!

my friend's family owns a salvage yard. he's always getting great deals on stuff. here is the boat and motor that he scored for $500.

after motoring around for a while, we had to go back to camp for lunch. well, any trip wouldn't be perfect without a little trouble.

can you believe the tire still held air?
as luck would have it, the spare was flat too. we had to drive to South Boston, about 20 miles away, to pick up a new tire/wheel combo.

now we are all set to head out to the water again. they wanted to wake-board, so instead of fishing, we wake-boarded for a while...

after wake-boarding, we headed up the Staunton river into the shallow flats where there were supposed to be lots of carp and garr fish. this is where we were gonna do a lot of bow-fishing.

oh man! we just spent 2 hours getting up in here, and these clouds start rolling in...

we haul ass back to camp to get things covered up and put away. just in the nick of time too!

well, there goes fishing for the rest of the afternoon.
that's ok. we can just hang out at camp. we saw this little guy slither by. he didn't survive.

after dinner we went back to the river to do some night cat fishing. the boat motor was only running on one cylinder for some reason, so we trolled out to the middle and fished for about 1/2 hour before it started pouring rain again.

oh well, back to camp early. by the time we got back to camp, it had quit raining.
i love hanging out by a campfire at night. i think it is relaxing.

well, sunday morning we didn't really do much since the boat was acting up. we just hung out, ate, and then left.
before we left, i caugh a picture of this little guy stealing our tortilla chips.

then we packed everything up and headed home. camping is fun, but it is exhausting as well. i had never camped in a state park before. it definitely wasn't ruffing it. there was a bath house with running, hot water and a drink machine.
